Import Tax

We are sending from Singapore. A parcel declared > 45euros, gift or no gift, is likely to be taxed. A parcel can only be insured not more than its declared value. We can insure/declare less, but the risk is yours.

From our experience on Germany, Air Mail parcels are 20% likely to be taxed, while ExpressMail is 90%, and 100% for commercial couriers (Fedex DHL, TNT).

German Customs tax = Excise duty + Import duty.
Excise duty is 2% of the product price.
Import duty is 19% on the product value (after excise) + delivery cost. Eg.

  • Product price = 100E
  • Delivery Cost = 20E
  • Excise duty = 100 x 2% = 2E
  • Product value = 100 + 2 = 102E
  • Import duty = (102 + 20) x 19% = 23.18
  • Customs tax = 2 + 23.18 = 25.18E

Other Non EU countries may have a more liberal customs policy
